Phosphate Coatings
-
Phosphate Coatings are a crystal formation on the substraights surface.
-
The coating alone doesn't offer much corrosion protection. The protection comes from the oils, waxes or seals applied after the phosphate coating absorbing into the crystal structure.
-
The coating is not measure in coating thickness. The crystal structure is porous and "spongy" and measuring equipment generally exerts to much force when attempting to measure, causing the coating to compress.
-
We currently offer manganese phosphate and zinc phosphate on steels and cast irons.
-
Manganese phosphate is applied to items for anti-galling and wearing in properties. It has a low coefficient of friction and is improved with lubricants absorbed into the crystal structure.
-
Zinc Phosphate also has fair wearing in properties but its fine grain and thinner coating thickness make it an excellent base for paints and adhesives onto steel.
