Black Oxide Coating
-
Black oxide is a conversion coating of iron
-
The iron in your steel substrate is converted into an black magnetite.
-
You are basically forcing a Fe3O4 rust instead of allowing for Fe2O3, natural red rust, to form
-
The protection is more from the adsorption of oils into the oxide then from the oxide itself.
-
We have work with many of the different types of black oxide but still we stick with the old age "Hot Bluing" process. Its harder wearing, zero distortion, no size change after coating and doesn't affect tempers.
-
The coating is very thin and the build up is not considered, even on precision machine parts.
-
We offer a polished , standard and satin black option
